The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a new digital service allowing citizens to register births and deaths online through its Pak ID mobile application. This initiative eliminates the need for in-person visits to union council offices, making civic registration more convenient and accessible.
Currently, the service is available in selected union councils, including 71 in Chakwal, 44 in Jhelum, and 65 in Nankana Sahib. NADRA plans to roll out the system nationwide in phases under the government’s Digital Pakistan initiative. The platform enables users to submit registration requests directly to their union councils from home, streamlining processes and reducing administrative burdens.
Streamlining Civic Services
This move is part of NADRA’s ongoing efforts to digitise essential services and improve public access through user-friendly online platforms. By integrating birth and death registration into the Pak ID app, the authority aims to make governance more efficient and citizen-centric.
Alongside this, NADRA has updated its fee structure for Smart CNICs and renewals. The new rates are as follows:
-
Smart CNIC (New): PKR 750 (Normal), PKR 1,500 (Urgent), PKR 2,500 (Executive)
-
Smart CNIC Renewal: PKR 750 (Normal), PKR 2,500 (Executive)
-
Standard CNIC Renewal: PKR 400 (Normal), PKR 2,150 (Executive)
Processing times vary, with Executive services delivering within 7 days, Urgent in 15 days, and Normal in 30 days. NADRA continues to provide other online services via the Pak Identity portal, including CNIC renewals, reprints, and modifications. First-time applicants, however, must still visit offices for biometric verification.
By combining online identity services with digital birth and death registration, NADRA is taking significant steps to modernise civic administration and improve accessibility for citizens across Pakistan.
