In a development welcomed by thousands of educators, the Punjab Education Department has announced the reopening of its School Information System (SIS) portal for marriage-based transfers starting August 10.
The decision marks the end of a six-week suspension on such transfers, which had been in place due to ongoing staff rationalization measures. This update provides much-needed relief for married teachers seeking postings closer to their spouses.
Only Wedlock Transfers to Be Processed
According to the department, the reopened SIS portal will process only wedlock transfer applications at this time. The policy applies even if the applicant’s spouse is not employed in the government sector, broadening eligibility for those in private or other professions.
Officials say the move is part of an effort to ensure teachers have more flexibility in choosing their postings throughout the year. By enabling transfers based on marital needs, the department hopes to support family unity and improve job satisfaction among its teaching staff.
Teachers Advised to Apply Promptly
The Education Department has urged eligible teachers to log in to the SIS portal and submit their requests soon after the portal reopens on August 10. Early applications are expected to help avoid delays in processing.
This latest policy update reflects the department’s commitment to accommodating teachers’ personal circumstances while balancing the operational requirements of schools across Punjab.
